The Haul, Y’all – 4/8/2015

9 books plus bags n’ boards for them, about $35 bucks. Almost all Image Comics, which is no surprise for me. A few notes:  I’m so behind on reading Grant Morrison’s The Multiversity. I’ll have to devote a weekend to it sometime soon.  Birthright and Copperhead are both starting their second arcs. I’ve heard great things about Red One, and I’m stoked to close out the harrowing “Gridiron” arc in Southern Bastards. Descender started out strong last month. I still need to read  Secret Identities (I’ve only read a 5-page preview so far). And finally, this might be my last issue … Continue reading The Haul, Y’all – 4/8/2015

The Question’s Never Far from the Answer | Thoughts on The Multiversity: Pax Americana #1

The Multiversity: Pax Americana #1 (DC) – There’s good Grant Morrison (The Multiversity #1 and The Multiversity: The Just #1). And there’s bad Grant Morrison (The Multiversity: Society of Superheroes #1and this issue), where he drops you in the middle of a story without a parachute and you bang your head and find yourself a little disoriented and wondering what the hell is going. That was my reading experience this time again with the multi-universal event (the ratio is now 2:2). I’ve seen a lot of chatter online and in the comic book media that lauds this issue as a … Continue reading The Question’s Never Far from the Answer | Thoughts on The Multiversity: Pax Americana #1

Comic Book Fetish Favorites | October 2014

Running late. Already into the second week of November. At any rate, here’s the rundown and commentary of the 19 comics released in October that I read. There a few new number ones on here so let’s see how they stacked up against the usual suspects. 1. Sex Criminals #8 (Image) 5.0 – SexCrimz never seems to disappoint and it’s undeniably my highest rated series since I’ve started doing the Fetish Favorites here, scoring 5.0 issues more than any other series I read. And it’s never earned a rating lower than 4.0 (out of 5) from me in all its … Continue reading Comic Book Fetish Favorites | October 2014

The Justified | Thoughts on The Multiversity: The Just #1

The Multiversity: The Just #1 (DC) – This third installment was a lot more fun than the previous one that focused on the Society of Superheroes (S.O.S), the old-school Golden Age contingency of characters. The characters of The Just (and Justice League) are all younger, legacy variants of the ones we know so well. Damian Wayne is Batman, Chris Kent is Superman, Alexis Luthor is Batman’s once secret girlfriend and whose dad had killed the original Superman – it all makes for awkward relations between the two “World’s Finest” best friends. Many characters abound here, as per The Multiversity usual … Continue reading The Justified | Thoughts on The Multiversity: The Just #1

Comic Book Fetish Favorites – August 2014

So I’ve expanded out to 18 books read this month, can 20 really be far behind? Overall I would say that critically August was right on par with July, with both being better than June. As always, given my 1st issue fetish, there are a few #ones here: Dead @ 17, The Fade Out, The Multiversity and SIP Kids. Also of note: Marvel hits twice in the Top 5. WTH? Let’s see how this all shakes out below. 1. Saga #22 (Image) 4.5 – Happy to say that after a three issue “slump” (as if still scoring 4 out of 5 from me … Continue reading Comic Book Fetish Favorites – August 2014

10 Random Thoughts About THE MULTIVERSITY #1 + GRANT MORRISON

This isn’t a standard review, in fact, I don’t think my mind is wired for those anymore anyways. This is just a document of the random thoughts I notated as I read the book. 1. First of all, I’m hit n’ miss with Morrison. I’m also not exactly a DCU kind of superhero lover, so before giving this a try I was thinking, “It’s DC, I won’t care what’s going on, I won’t know any of the characters” and blah, blah, blah. But I pushed all of that away and got pleasantly surprised. 2. It’s science-fiction superhero comics near or … Continue reading 10 Random Thoughts About THE MULTIVERSITY #1 + GRANT MORRISON
